FOTN: Pishawl

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum & Hello Everyone!

Ramadhaan Mubaarak. May Allaah accept your fast and good deeds, ameen.

Well… After 9 months of toiling over my beloved needles and purple wool yarn, I finally finished the pishawl... Finally!

Pishawl 2

It took a good few months to the body. As for the edging, that took about 1.5-2 months to complete. It was a bit of a challenge doing a provisional cast-on edging. But Alhamdulillaah I eventually got the hang of it!

I made this shawl for a very special family member in my life. I mailed it to her and Mashaa Allaah she loved it. I also made a little lavender sachet that she can use to store with her shawl to keep any critters away.

Until next time,

Happy Knitting!

A Pink Doily

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum! Hey there! Lately, I’ve been in the mood to crochet. I’m pretty sure its because I’ve putting in so much work on the -knitted- pi shawl. I really want a quick crochet project that I could finish in a day. So I made a — somewhat chunky — doily out of cotton worsted-weight yarn.   Doily Alhamdulillaah, the project only took me a couple hours to make. ❤ Miss K Knits

Pi Shawl Update 3.14.15

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum and Hello everyone,

Back in October, I blogged about the pishawl that I casted on. Well, I finally completed the body of the shawl; I wass soo so glad to get finished, seriously. It felt great to do that last stitch… BUT then came the edging.

Pi Shawl

Wow, can we say provisional cast-on?…. I mean I’ve done a provisional cast-on before to start a shawl, but I’ve never used this method to do an edging. It was a little tough at first; I ripped the edging out about 4 times. It was frustrating, but I eventually figured it out. Alhamdulillaah. Now provisional edging is a total breeze. I’m just edging away!!

I think I completed about 35% of the edging. Not too bad considering that I’m working on it little-by-little daily.

OH and by the way, I just happened to post my pishawl update on pi day. This was TOTALLY unintended LOL. I promise.

Until next time,
Happy Knitting ❤

New Rovings

I ordered some roving and it finally came in the mail today! Yay! ❤ … I bought two braids, both are 2-oz each; the first is a merino wool and the second is a Corriedale wool.

Rovings

My goal is to spin both rovings at worsted weight, and then knit them into pocket-slippers, Inshaa Allaah.

Hopefully, I’ll have enough yarn to do this; The nice thing about pocket slippers is that they use very little yarn.

What have you knitted or crochet from your handspuns?

New Knitting Books Part II

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum and Hello everyone,

You probably read in my last blogpost, about the individual patterns that I bought at my library’s book sale!

Today I will share the book finds, Inshaa Allaah.

Alhamdulillaah I bought 4 books. Masha Allaah such great prices! And, like the patterns that I blogged about the last time, the books had the original price tags on them. I saved $64.33. Mashaa Allaah!

SO, here are the books that I bought!

The most amazing book that I found is Folk Socks by Nancy Bush. I’d been admiring this book for so long and honestly couldn’t believe that I found it the library book sale! Alhamdulillaah.

Do you ever buy knitting books at you local library’s book sale? If so, what is your favorite find?

New Knitting Books Part I

 As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum and Hello everyone,

A while back, I went to my local library’s book sale! To my surprise, they had boxes and boxes of knitting patterns and books.

I bought both books and patterns! I’ll share my pattern finds today and the books in a later post Inshaa Allaah.

Okay!

I got a total of 16 patterns and only spend $8! The patterns were 50 cents a piece. But, they still had the original price tags on them. I did all of the calculations and I saved 78.60! What a deal! Mashaa Allaah.

My favorite patterns from this bunch – although its really hard to choose- are the Audrey Gloves by Nancy Ricci and the Peruvian Ruana by Barbar Selesnick!

Do you ever buy knitting/crochet from Library book Sales? If so, what has been your latest find so far?

Mixed BFL Handspun

I recently finished a – spindle – spinning project, Alhamdulillaah. I used the Mixed BFL that I got from the International Spin in Public Day.

This is actually my first time working with this fiber. I seriously cannot believe how soft it is! Subhaan Allaah.

Overall, it was an easy spin. But, with the BFL being so soft, there was a bit of “slip” as I was spinning/drafting the fiber.

There are some uneven strands in the yarn. But, that’s what I love about handspun.

Pishawl Cast-on

A couple of weeks ago I casted on a pishawl. I’m not knitting the original design but am making a variation of it. Alhamdulillaah I’m having so much fun working on this project! Though I am enjoying this knit, I do have to admit that there has been one hurdle.

I had the hardest time converting the lace patterns from flat knitting into knitting in the round. Alhamdulillaah I thinkkk I am getting the hang of it now. I knitted out test swatches to see if my conversions worked; Alhamdulillaah they did!!

Here’s a picture of the beginning rounds of the shawl. I was on the first lace pattern when I took this picture.

Here’s an updated picture of the shawl. Mashaa Allaah, it has grown so much.

Have you made a pi shawl before? How did the process go for you?

Well until next time

FOTN (Fresh off the Needles) – Superindipity Socks

I finally finished the Superindipity socks that I’ve been knitting on for toooo long.

This is my first time knitting lace-pattern socks. I had to rip out a few rows a couple times, but the overall experience was a success!

In the midst of knitting these socks, I felt like the purple color and the lace combination seemed “off”. But after I blocked them, they turned out beautifully. Mashaa Allaah. I guess that’s the suspense of lace knitting.
